Getting to experience the world through the eyes of your little ones is such a gratifying and playful experience. There’s no better place to watch them learn and play than the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh! This incredible establishment is a fantastic resource for families in the greater Pittsburgh area and a beautiful place to learn, grow, and explore.
About The Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh
In 1983, the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh was opened on Pittsburgh’s Northside in the historic Old Post Office building. What began as 5,000 square feet of exhibits grew to over 20,000 square feet two years later, spreading throughout the entirety of The Old Post Office. In the decades since, the museum has expanded, launching permanent and temporary exhibits, interactive tours, and nationally recognized programming.
The Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh was named one of the 10 Best Children’s Museums in the Country by USA Today in 2022. Today, they offer hands-on exhibit areas that “inspire kindness, joy, creativity, and curiosity” in every kid that visits and every kid at heart. It’s a place that nurtures discovery in all the best ways, igniting imagination and play.
Discover The Fun
There is so much to explore at the Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh, and chances are you’ll discover something new every time you visit! There are always temporary exhibits rotating in and out of the museum, too, so try to catch them while they’re in town if you can!
Many of the museum’s popular exhibits are permanent, however. Some fan favorites include the Kindness Gallery, which teaches important skills like empathy and compassion using work inspired by Fred Rogers and Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood. The Kindness Gallery includes Animateering, an animated puppetry collection, and the Gravity Room and alcoves designed for quiet sensory experiences.
The Makeshop is a creator’s dream, with materials to design, create, and bring ideas to life! Little ones can try their hands at basic skills like sewing, woodworking, and tinkering while experiencing hands-on learning. Similarly, the Art Studio allows children to use paint, clay, mixed media, and multimedia to create beautiful new masterpieces!
Car and vehicle-loving kids will adore the Garage, with its customizable race tracks, mechanical-inspired activities, and climbing equipment. Anyone who likes making a little bit of a mess (and who doesn’t?!) will have a blast exploring the Waterplay exhibit, the Backyard, and the Garden. And this is just a selection of their fabulous permanent exhibits!

From one busy mom to another, I know what it’s like to have to balance a thousand things at one time. So often, it feels like we’re so rushed that we can’t take a second to actually enjoy this stage of parenthood. Unfortunately, these years have a tendency to fly by. As a photographer, I love giving parents the opportunity to freeze time. So they can hang onto these gorgeous moments long after their kids grow up. I specialize in creating laid-back photo sessions, leaving you with authentic memories.
