Cloth diapers or disposable? Moby carrier or Solly wrap? Bottles or breasts? We make a lot of choices as we prepare to meet our baby, but when it comes to our birth, it feels like we hardly get a say beyond choosing whether or not we get an epidural. Women are often left to the whims of their doctors throughout delivery, and this experience can get very frustrating. It’s time to change that! While midwives have been around for as long as people have been having babies, they’ve faced a pretty great resurgence in the past decade. It’s because midwives are huge advocates! They listen to their patients and give them the birth experience that’s best for them. If you want a more personalized approach to your prenatal care, then you would love Pittsburgh Midwife. This fabulous office has helped women all across the city take control of their delivery.
About Pittsburgh Midwife
Pittsburgh Midwife is a practice that was started by Jenn Nelson. For 20 years, Jenn worked as a nurse while starting her own journey into motherhood. During Jenn’s first two pregnancies and deliveries, she realized how little autonomy she truly had in the process. For her third delivery, she chose a midwife, and it transformed her. She decided that she was going to help revolutionize the birth world by becoming a midwife herself. Jenn now uses her experience as a nurse as well as her training as a midwife to give women their voices back. She specializes in home births and will help you feel empowered every step of the way!
Services
When you choose Pittsburgh Midwife for your care, you’ll start out with regular prenatal visits. Jenn isn’t going to be your typical provider. She’ll take the time during each visit to make sure you feel confident in your pregnancy. You’ll receive all your services, including heartbeat monitoring, blood pressure checks, and intermittent urine dips. Throughout the whole process, you’ll be receiving an education so you feel ready for your home delivery.
Before your due date, you’ll work out a birth plan. Once labor starts, Jenn will be by your side, honoring it as much as possible. Throughout the process, your birth team is going to ensure birth is progressing as needed. Immediately following labor, they’ll perform a newborn exam and make sure both of you are on your way to recovery. For 2-3 hours, they’ll monitor you, clean up any mess, and then leave you to rest and recover with your new baby.
Specialty
Once your baby is born, the care doesn’t stop with Pittsburgh Midwife. For the next month and a half, you’ll receive regular appointments to make sure both you and your baby are recovering. Jenn will work with you on family planning services and will help you register your baby with the state. You’ll also have 3 complimentary visits with a pelvic floor specialist. So you have the resources to repair any potential damage.
