As a Pittsburgh family photographer and a mom who knows how fast summer flies, I’m always on the lookout for places where families can cool off, burn energy, and make unforgettable memories together. Water parks are one of our favorite go-to adventures once the weather heats up. Whether you’re chasing giggles in the splash pad or floating along a lazy river, these water parks near Pittsburgh offer the perfect blend of fun and family-friendly vibes. Here are a few spots my clients (and my own kids!) can’t get enough of.
Summer Memories Can Be Extra Special At These Water Parks Near Pittsburgh

Sandcastle
1000 Sandcastle Drive, West Homestead, PA 15120
Right along the Monongahela River, Sandcastle water park is a summer staple for Pittsburgh families. It’s close to the city but feels like a mini vacation with everything from wave pools to kiddie slides and family tube rides. There’s a great mix of chill and thrill here, which makes it perfect for families with kids of different ages. If your crew is looking for a day full of fun without going too far, Sandcastle checks all the boxes.
Idlewild & SoakZone
2580 U.S. 30, Ligonier, PA 15658
Idlewild, just outside Pittsburgh, is one of the oldest water parks in the country, and it still holds so much magic. The SoakZone water park section is a summertime favorite, with splash zones, water slides, and a wave pool that feels straight out of childhood. What I love most about Idlewild is how charming and manageable it feels. You don’t need to race from ride to ride to have a good time. It’s ideal for little ones and big kids alike, and it’s one of those places where time seems to slow down just enough for you to soak it all in (pun intended).
Splash Lagoon
8091 Peach Street, Erie, PA 16509
Looking for a getaway that the kids will talk about all year? Splash Lagoon is a massive indoor water park in Erie, just a couple of hours from Pittsburgh. With waterslides, a lazy river, toddler-friendly play zones, and even a wave pool, it’s the kind of place where you could easily spend the whole weekend. Because it’s indoors, it’s a perfect option when the weather is unpredictable or you’re trying to squeeze in a winter birthday surprise.
DelGrosso’s Amusement Park
4352 E. Pleasant Valley Blvd, Tipton, PA 16684
This family-run amusement and water park in Tipton is a hidden gem for summer fun. The water park area includes a lazy river, fun slides, and a large play zone for younger kids. It’s also just under two hours from Pittsburgh, making it a doable day trip for families who want something a little different. What I appreciate most is how relaxed it feels. It’s clean, not too overwhelming, and always a good time.
