2025 Fall Activities in Pittsburgh, PA and Family Events
Hey, friends! When the leaves start changing and the mornings finally call for sweaters, it’s officially time to share my favorite 2025 Fall Activities in Pittsburgh, PA and Family Events. And if your family is anything like mine, you’re ready to get outside, soak in the season, and make some cozy weekend memories.
Here are my favorite ways to enjoy a Pittsburgh autumn– from pumpkin patches & hayrides for the kids to a full weekend getaway, plus some adult activities, you’ll want to make it a tradition.
Visit a Pumpkin Patch or Go Apple Picking
- Simmons Farm (McMurray, PA): This one’s a classic. Simmons Farm offers apple picking (lots of varieties), pumpkin patches, hayrides, petting zoo, corn maze, a big slide and seasonal weekend vendors. Great for older kids who want more adventure plus younger ones who love animals & hayrides.
- Soergel Orchards (Wexford, PA): For a quintessential Pittsburgh in the fall experience, Soergel checks all the boxes: apple & pumpkin picking, hayrides, games, pony rides, cider and lots of treats. It’s busy on the weekends, so going earlier in the day helps. Soergel even has an allergy friendly trick or treat option for families!
- Triple B Farms (Monogahela, PA): About 15 miles from downtown, Triple B is another go-to spot. Pick your own pumpkins and apples, take hayrides, do the rope maze, bounce on inflatables. Older kids will like the bigger maze; younger ones will love the farmyard vibe and flower picking.
- Shenot’s Farm & Market (Wexford, PA): Shenot’s is super accessible, and while some parts are easier for younger kids, there’s enough here for older ones too. Pumpkin patch, corn maze, scenic walking trails to the patch and goodies from the market.
- Trax Farms (Finleyville, PA): This is my family’s go-to spot in the fall! Their family events are more than just pumpkin picking- corn mazes, hayrides, different fall-festival style food trucks, all the vibes of autumn just outside the city. Great when you want things to do in Pittsburgh plus a taste of rural charm. Plus, their Hops & Hayrides event for adults is not something you want to miss.
- Harvest Valley Farms Fall Festival (Valencia, PA): For a full-day family outing, this one delivers. Pumpkin picking, a corn pit, hayrides, festival eats, live music, crafts- there’s enough to keep older kids satisfied while little ones explore. Free admission, though some activities cost extra.
Visit a Halloween Themed Park
- Kennywood’s Phantom Fall Fest (Kennywood Park, West Mifflin, PA): If your kids are into rides and fall ambiance, this hits both. Kennywood transforms for the season: special rides, Halloween-themed attractions during the day (less scary) and more “spooky” stuff later if that’s their jam.
- Pittsburgh Zoo & Aquarium- Jack o’Lantern Extravaganza (Pittsburgh, PA): When you want a mix of wildlife & fall fun, this is perfect. Thousands of hand carved pumpkins, festive lighting, special food and walks. It’s more of a city experience but still very much part of the Pittsburgh autumn magic.
Enjoy a Scenic Drive or Nature Walk
- Sometimes the simplest is the sweetest. A drive to spot fall foliage or an afternoon hike in a nearby park is just what we need. Boyce Park, trails around the Laurel Highlands, or places an hour or so out where the views are fabulous. Pair it with a picnic or stop at a farm stand for cider. Even the older appreciate the scenery once their phones run out of juice!
A Weekend Getaway with Fall Activities
- Nemacolin Woodlands (Farmington, PA): This is our absolute favorite! Tucked up in the breathtaking Laurel Highlands, Nemacolin has it all- 3 luxury hotels, private homes, spa, world class dining, year round pool, and Halloween weekend full of family events that’s to die for! Plus, you can explore what the surrounding area in the Laurel Highlands has to offer for fall family events.
- Bedford Springs (Bedford, PA): Just about 2 hours outside of Pittsburgh, Bedford Springs is a historic hotel located in the Allegheny Mountains. It’s the perfect spot for when Mom & Dad need a little reset!
Fall Fun in Pittsburgh, PA
- Cheer on our hometown team by attending a Steelers game! Nothing gets me more in the mood for fall than football. The crowd is electric, the food is great and the drinks are refreshing. It’s quite the Pittsburgh fall experience!
- Downtown Pittsburgh also has their Oktoberfest as well as several Halloween Pop Up bars. You can check out the Monster Pumpkins Festival in the Strip District too!
